Classes for  Fall Semester 2024

Quarter 1

All classes are on Monday - Thursday. No LEAD Afterschool Classes on Friday. First day of LEAD is August 26, 2024

Outdoor Recreation  - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu - P.E. 

  • This One Health course expands individual well-being while creating healthy connections with other people, places (our community), and the planet. Learn about health through games, team initiatives, guest speakers, community service projects, and lots of outdoor recreation to create a healthier you. In this course, we aim to strengthen our ties with our natural surroundings, build a stronger sense of community, and nurture an awareness and appreciation for traditional and modern strengths and virtues.

Readers Theater -  Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu - English/Elective Credit

  • Feel like getting out of your comfort zone or are you a natural when it comes to acting? Need an English elective? Reader’s theater is fun, engaging, and a wonderful change of pace from the traditional English classroom. No memorization needed like a typical drama class! Attendance is crucial since reader's theater incorporates cooperative learning.

Pottery -  Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu - Elective Credit

  • Students will learn the fundamentals for working with clay: the 4 main building techniques: Pinch, Coil, Slab, & Thrown. How to glaze, what glaze is. How the kiln works. They will be building a group of projects of their choice using each of the techniques. Let’s get building!

Construction - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu - Math/Elective Credit

  • Ever wondered how to build a shed or greenhouse? Or where to start with some beginning-level home improvement and remodeling projects? Construction trades will get you started on with hands-on experience building, repairing, and remodeling items you will commonly encounter now or in the future.

Home Ec - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu - Elective Credit

  • Want to learn to cook or sew? Want to make a difference? Join Home Ec and be a part of something BIG! We will get our hands (and probably clothes) dirty in the kitchen twice a week and then work in the classroom learning sewing basics while working on a community project to donate! This is a good opportunity for students to earn their food handlers card, learn about and make food from different cultures, balance nutritional meals, and food science. This is a two-part class. Attendance is required for both parts to earn credit. Instructor: Mrs. Seltzer and Ms. Erk

MATH Tutoring (ONLY for math needs) - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu

  • Math-specific tutoring is for those students struggling with mathematics. If you have difficulties understanding your math classes, this is the class for you.
    Instructor: Mrs. Kettwig

General Tutoring/ ABLE Afternoon - Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu

  • General Tutoring is for all your academic needs. From English to History to Science. General Tutoring is for those who want to stay on track with this schoolwork. This is a dedicated quiet place for you to work at your pace.

All classes are on Monday - Thursday. No LEAD Afterschool Classes on Friday.

Winter Recreation 

  • In this course, we’ll be getting outdoors, recreating in our winter snow! Students will practice cross-country skiing and snowshoeing while also learning winter self & group care and developing critical thinking for avalanche awareness.

Poety 

  • Poetry is not as scary as you may think! Release your inner poet. Join a supportive learning environment, which encourages growth and creativity while earning an English elective credit. 

Art - Art in Culture

  • Approaching art through a cultural eye. Students will make art pieces related to or replicated from their own personal culture or cultures. We will explore culture & ancestry & we will research traditional ways of doing and traditional art pieces. Students will be able to use a variety of materials, trying to be as authentic as possible. From Carving to basket weaving to painting and sewing, students will explore their culture through art.

Coding in Minecraft

  • Coding in Minecraft immerses students in a Minecraft world to develop and prove their coding skills using MakeCode. After learning the basics of coding, the class will decide as a group to learn the basics either Javascript or Python coding language. No coding experience is required for this class. If you love Minecraft or are interested in computer science, this class is for you! 

Math and General Tutoring/ ABLE Lab

  • Math-specific tutoring is for those students struggling with mathematics. If you have difficulties understanding your math classes, this is the class for you.

  • General Tutoring is to help you stay on track or catch up on your daily school work. Summit students are encouraged to sign-up if they are behind in 1 or more subjects. 

  • For ABLE students who need more hours to catch up on credits, this is a good opportunity to get on track. Fewer students in the PM will allow students more accessibility to teacher help.
